At Oftedal Construction, Inc. (Oftedal) we’ve proudly served Montana, Wyoming, and the surrounding Mountain West region since 1964. What began as a small earthmoving operation has grown into one of the largest and most respected heavy civil construction firms in the region. Today, with offices in Miles City, Montana and Casper, Wyoming, we’re strategically positioned to provide high-quality heavy civil and underground utility services across multiple states.
Our Legacy of Expansion and Adapting
Over the decades, we’ve built our reputation on quality work, reliability, and professional know how. While our roots are in mass excavation, we’ve expanded our services to adapt to the evolving construction market. Recognizing the growing demand for specialized utility services, we launched our Underground Utility Division in 2018, and a Concrete Division in 2024 allowing us to deepen our commitment to critical infrastructure work.
Our underground utility services include the installation of wet utilities (water, sewer, and stormwater systems), along with associated structures and appurtenances. We use state-of-the-art technology—GPS systems, drones, and digital photography—to deliver precision and efficiency on every job site. Maintaining a healthy and safe work environment for our employees has always been and continues being our main priority. Oftedal’s award winning safety staff and field supervision follow internal protocols, policies and procedures that frequently exceed OSHA, MSHA and other regulatory standards to protect our team and the communities we serve.
Recent Projects in Montana and Wyoming
We take pride in the large-scale, high-impact infrastructure projects we’ve completed across the region. In Montana, we are wrapping up a 10.8-mile highway reconstruction project west of Lambert, moving nearly 875,000 cubic yards of earth and installing over 4,500 linear feet of reinforced concrete pipe (RCP), including components as large as 20-foot box culverts. Projects like this showcase our ability to manage large scale infrastructure challenges efficiently.
In Wyoming, our Casper Streets Underground Utilities Project exemplifies our year-round commitment to excellence. This extensive project involves the installation of approximately 3,100 linear feet of 18- to 78-inch reinforced concrete storm pipe, along with water and sewer lines. In addition, the project includes constructing 3,550 feet of concrete curb and gutter, 2,000 feet of sidewalk, and over 10,000 cubic yards of concrete placement. All concrete work is self performed by our stellar Concrete Division established in 2024.
Another notable Wyoming project is the multi-year Lusk Street and Utility Improvements, where we handled the complete removal and replacement of water, sewer, and storm systems. This work included new street paving, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and landscaping, demonstrating our ability to enhance both functionality and community aesthetics.
People – The Key to Our Longevity
Simply stated, dedicated and skilled people account for Oftedal’s 60 year longevity. For some time now our industry has struggled to recruit new and young talent. That’s why for nearly a decade we have prioritized workforce development and actively engage in initiatives like our annual Heavy Civil Career Days for students in Montana and Wyoming. These hands-on events introduce the next generation to construction careers and the heavy equipment we use daily.
Internally, we invest heavily in training and continuous development for our employees, ensuring our teams are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to deliver high production and quality workmanship.
Advancing with Technology and Equipment
At Oftedal, we stay on the leading edge of construction technology. We use Topcon GPS systems and Wingtra drone systems to conduct rapid job site surveys and create accurate digital maps. Our modern fleet includes production scrapers, dozers, motor graders, excavators, and off-road haul trucks—allowing us to handle projects of any size and scale with precision and speed.
Our expertise isn’t limited to road construction and civil utilities— for decades we’ve worked across industry sectors including industrial, airport, rail, mining, and energy, both renewable and non-renewable. This diverse background enables us to serve a wide array of client needs.
Building Solid Relationships
“Building Solid Relationships” is how we approach everything we do. From project kickoff to final inspection, we emphasize clear communication, transparency, and partnership. Our values—adaptability, courage, initiative, communication, development, inspiration, and conflict management—guide us on every job and help us deliver consistent, high-quality results.
Clients choose Oftedal Construction because they know we will get their job done right and they come back because they trust us.
