Project Description
The I-94 Broadus Interchange-Miles City Reconstruction project was a community driven solution beginning in 2011 to address an aging, dysfunctional, interchange originally constructed as a farm-interchange in 1961.
The project scope of work involved replacing two, double lane bridge structures, installation of mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) retaining walls, installation of necessary storm drains, curb, gutter and sidewalks, reconstruct east and west bound on and off ramps, construction of two roundabouts and construction of a 1,038 square yard soil nail retaining wall.
Completed in 2020, the reconstructed interchange features two new bridges each providing 17-ft of clearance above South Haynes Ave each with widened shoulders and 12-foot travel lanes, four widened and lengthened interchange ramps to add additional capacity to the interchange and improve acceleration onto, and deceleration from, the interstate, increased safety for traveling motorists by improved line of site, slower traffic in the congested area resulting in decreased vehicular crashes and damage incidents.
